Newcastle Hypnotherapy Procrastination – Nigel Hetherington

Hypnotherapy Newcastle for creating positive New Year habits where you can get more done so you can be more successful. Hypnosis in Newcastle 2013 specifically for stopping procrastination. Newcastle hypnotherapy helping you to mind shift into getting your tasks and goals completed.

Procrastination literally means putting off until tomorrow. People procrastinate for a million different reasons  like a lack of energy, not being motivated or a surprise invitation to the cinema. It could even be being overwhelmed by our task to begin with, not knowing how to begin.

Most of us actually do have really valuable and important goals and tasks to complete. They will most likely benefit others as well as ourselves. Newcastle hypnotherapy is one way you can address your procrastination and make positive changes in attaining your goal.

This is a short clip from a Clinical Hypnotherapy training in Newcastle upon Tyne.

We all have task or goals we want to complete. Sometimes for whatever reason these are put off and we do something else instead.

This looks like this : “I want to do ‘X’ but do ‘Y’ instead

Procrastination really only becomes a problem when regular procrastination mounts up and almost nothing gets done. And like most developing habits the longer it goes on, the harder it seems to break the habit.

  • I want to be slimmer but I eat chocolate every night instead
  • I want to complete my study but I watch television instead
  • I want to do public speaking but I shy away instead
  • I want to finish writing my book but I have a cup of tea instead
  • I want to share my views  with my boss but I bite my tongue instead

The premise for this particular technique is acknowledging and valuing each behaviour individually and in its own right. Using physicalised postures for each behaviour and in a hypnotic trance slowly alternating between the two.

Neuro Biology of Procrastination

This is easy to understand on one level. In terms of doing a behaviour the neurotransmitter dopamine plays a big part in motivating us to take action. If we consider the choice between two tasks, simplistically, we will do the one where we are most motivated.

Having a real sense of what will happen positively as a result of you completing your goals and tasks will increase your motivation.

Our frontal cortex also has a role to play here, so it’s not as simple as just dopamine. The frontal cortex helps us choose to put off short term pleasures now in favour of long term pleasures and rewards later on. This is about will-power. The antagonist here is most likely the limbic system which is concerned with much more immediate rewards and pleasures.

So in valuing both behaviours, we could say one more limbic and one more frontal cortex and acknowledging the positive aspects of both actions, the intention is to create a more agreeable balance in what you are doing.

Hypnotherapy Sunderland Trauma Resolution – Nigel Hetherington

Sunderland Hypnotherapy and Newcastle Hypnotherapy for professional help in dealing with a past trauma and flashbacks that are still impacting very negatively on your life. Hypnosis in Sunderland and Newcastle that can help you de-couple painful and emotionally charged memories so you can let go of psychological pain and move forward unburdened of the past.

I want to define trauma here, in the context of hypnosis for trauma resolution in Sunderland, so let’s call trauma, as being an event from the past that is projected mostly here in the now, causing negative emotions and suffering in the present. Or, again something from the past that occasionally surfaces, creates havoc, and then, recedes into the depths, like a virus, waiting to surface again in the future.

A trauma can take many forms. Trauma can be physical or psychological or both. Trauma resolution using hypnosis can be used to de-couple the negative or unwanted, often prolonged and uncontrollable emotions and feelings associated with a traumatic episode.

A traumatic incident is a major stressor and that means a massive stress response. Our bodies are made to help us survive the kind of life or death experience that we will either survive or we won’t; for most primates its either over or its OVER. Its not the same for most humans.

Stress Response and Trauma

From any immediate environmental danger our bodies will respond appropriately by shutting down our digestion, make our mouths dry and diverting all available energy to our muscles, specifically our running muscles in our legs. Our system will literally tear all available stored energy reserves from our liver and muscles as glucose and fatty acids which are transported in our blood to our working muscles. All in about fifteen seconds.

Before this happens and is registered, we will feel the adrenalin response. With a major stressor within about two seconds our sympathetic nervous system is pouring out both adrenalin and noradrenalin all over the body. This creates the very familiar gut clenching, pant filling fear and at the sharp edge of danger adrenergic  response we are all very familiar with.

Bazoom! A technical term, for all the life saving chemicals creating a stress response in the body that could imprint on our nervous system as a traumatic episode.  Problems begin when we re-experience this same bodily survival experience remembering and feeling emotionally aspects of the episode when it is over and there is no real physical danger; Remembering and feeling aspects often again and again in inappropriate circumstances and this is said to be a trauma re-expreience.

Psychological to Physiological Stressors

The initial imprints of physiological and psychological traumatic experiences will alter the nature of how a memory is stored. Highly stressful situations depress one particular type of memory and enhance another. In a high stress response situation, the body will be drenched in an endogenous hormones known as glucocorticoids.

A stress response will have the limbic system, particularly the amygdala, more energetically activated.

The amygdalae are flighty birds. They sit on a lonely beech, letting the waves wash over them passively. But when you approach, no matter how carefully, they take to the air. The amygdalae send the hypothalamus chemical messengers which in turn activate the ANS, producing more glucocorticoids.

Feeling The Trauma Long After It’s Passed

Recurrence of stron negative emotion or reliving traumatic experiences, long after the actual incident has passed is not uncommon. There may be environmental triggers, internal thoughts or some combination of these that re-activates your memories and unleashes the same chemicals of the ANS and limbic system activation and you re-experience the trauma.

Hypnosis and often Eye Movement Integration can be used together to help you de-couple the negative emotions from the traumatic problem memory.

What A Personal Hypnosis Session Will Be Like

It is important you know that not everyone can be hypnotised. Many people can be hypnotised. The people who can be hypnotised do experience different depths of trance.

If you are a person who can’t be hypnotised there are many other ways to help you de-couple traumatic memories, eye movement integration being one.

If you are expecting baublery you will be disappointed. There won’t be any spinning discs on the ceiling, there won’t be any modified karaoke machines or swinging pocket watches.

It may surprise you but I won’t guarantee or even say that I definitely can help you. This is because that question can only be answered after our initial hypnotic session together. I do find it a little unsettling to read that some hypnotists are claiming they can cure any phobia in minutes or heal any trauma within five sessions.

Prior to any session we will have a phone conversation. This is completely free and can take up to 25 minutes.

Hypnotherapy Newcastle Stop Smoking New Year Resolutions – Nigel Hetherington

Hypnosis in Newcastle to stop smoking using hypnotherapy and neuro linguistics. Every New Year huge numbers of people want to stop smoking. Some succeed and some do not. Hypnotherapy to Stop Smoking may be the way for you to succeed and stop smoking using hypnosis in Newcastle.

New Year resolutions to help you stop smoking with professional assistance using clinical hypnotherapy in the North East, Newcastle and easily accessible from Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Durham, Teesside and all of Northumberland to stop smoking using hypnotherapy.

Nicotine Is Massively Addictive – Why It Is Hard To Stop

Nicotine, through smoking, imbibing, is one of the most difficult habits to break free of. It is difficult so stop because when inhaling nicotine, through a bio-chemical process, we activate the Nicotinic receptors, the receptors in the brain that respond to and communicate with Acetylcholine.  Acetylcholine is a neuro-transmitter that is used in the body to move muscles and in the brain to stimulate memory.

Nicotine is an exogenous ( externally administered ) chemical that mimics the Cholenergic, specifically acetylcholine receptors in the nervous system and neurologically ‘feels’ very  good. This is very bad new when you want to quit smoking because when a person smokes there is a large release of nicotine and your neurons love this stuff. They are partying like they have won the lottery and jumping and dancing, stewing in excess excitation and activity.

Unlike cocaine, heroin and most addictive drugs there is practically no loss of identity, no loss of coordination and nicotine is not a huge euphoriant, in other words, when smoking, you will not feel particularly blissful or loved up.

There is no massive come down, a technical term for feeling psychologically and physically fucked the next day where brain neurons are massively down-regulating to a normal way of working. No, there is just the nagging craving for another smoke.

It is also bed news because when the initial flood of nicotine that activates all the nicotine loving receptors recedes, those poor receptors begin screaming for more, more MORE! This is why it is both physically and psychologically difficult to stop for long periods.

But there is good news. After stopping for a little while, just days in-fact, your neurons get back into the swing of normal neurological operation.  And in these few days your brain neurons are plastically beginning to unwire and unconnect the habits that have enslaved you.

Newcastle Hypnotherapy to Stop Smoking

Here are some things you might like to know about what will and equally importantly what wont happen in a session together.

Firstly not every one can be hypnotised. This is a fact and any experienced and honest hypnotherapist will confirm this to you.  I find it a little unsettling when I read statements on other hypnotherapist web sites that say ‘ anyone can be hypnotised’ ‘and you will stop smoking in one session.’ If you cant be hypnotised then there are many other ways you can stop smoking and sometimes it can take several session.

I do not charge an exorbitant fee just for people who are wanting to stop smoking or weight loss for that matter. All of my sessions are the the same price and same duration. The processes I utilise to help you and ways of working together do not necessitate a fee per unique service. To me this would count as a particular immoral cashing in on people, some who can be desperate to make changes. And of course each to their own!

I don’t use baublery in hypnotic sessions. There will be no spinning disks on the ceiling. There is no glorified karaoke machine and ‘special’ soothing music as I regard these as unnecessary gimmicks. I don’t use scripts. Each session is totally unique and as much as possible is a co-created hypnotic space where my objective is for you to really get the changes you have come to make.

There is no one best way to stop smoking for everyone. There is most likely a good way for your personally. Some people can quit there and then in one session. Other people will begin to reduce their smoking perhaps removing one or two cigarettes per day, perhaps only one half a day.

Before we meet and do any hypnosis, you are required to complete a questionnaire and have a telephone conversation with me. This is so our session together can fully concentrate on you making the changes you want. Working with the events and stressors that make you smoke the most, understanding your reasons for quitting.

Additionally you are obligated to refrain from smoking for at least 24 hours before our session together. Why? Simply because I want you to be desperate for a cigarette. I want you to be in the emotional space and deep craving for a smoke so we can work on that sensation that causes many people to have a cigarette. This makes sense because it is the craving you are desperately wanting to dissolve. This way we work directly with the problem state.

Transparent pricing, no extra fee for this ( or weigh loss ) all sessions are £123 for 2 hours. Stop smoking with Newcastle Hypnotherapy in the New Year. Make 2013 Stop Smoking new year resolution much more achievable and realistic with Newcastle Hypnosis. When you know and are committed to stop smoking in Newcastle using hypnotherapy … do something about it.

Hypnosis Newcastle Anxiety – Nigel Hetherington

Hypnotherapy Newcastle for Anxiety problems such as excessive worry, guilt and remorse. Newcastle hypnotherapy for common anxiety disorders such as obsessive compulsive disorder ( OCD ), trauma, intrusive traumatic memories and flash backs.

People with problematic anxiety disorders often describe their problems as ‘preying on their mind’. Anxious people will also describe their symptoms as ‘tying their stomach up in knots’ and occasionally ‘feeling skitish’ as well as ‘having a looming sense of dread’.

The embodied sense of unwell is not experienced as some cerebral thought process but is instead felt physically and emotionally in the body. If you consider some of the terms commonly used by anxious people to describe their problems we discover many of those terms are metaphorical in their literal description and are of an embodied physicalised sense.

What Does That Mean You May Be Asking? Good Question!

Well, predators like lions, tigers and bears prey on or stalk their food. We can tie a rope up into knots and it’s people or clouds that can  loom upon us but…

In the context of Anxiety, there is no literal tying up of our stomachs in knots; there is no physical being looming on us and there is no physical predator preying on our minds for their lunch of emotional nutrition, not even an metaphorical energy vampire! AND we can quite literally act as though this metaphorical descriptions IS true.

Neuro Biological Components Of Anxiety – Brain Stuff

Refined brain scanning of neuronal activity in many studies has shown, as a body of evidence, that there are certain brain nucleoli involved in most types of anxiety. Interestingly they are other brain nucleoli involved in more positive reports of psychological states. The research backs up the common knowledge that certain kinds of activities that mediate the common terms to describe ‘good states’.

It makes perfect sense that, when removing neuro-biological pathology there are ways of thinking and behaving that create negative states. Just as much as the obverse, in that there are ways of thinking and being that promote ‘positive states’.

OK, brain scanning ( fMRI ) has shown that there is increased activity in the lateral-pre-frontal cortex ( PFC ) and the dorsal anterior cingulate ( dAC ); relating the unexpected to negative emotional moods, very much like the well documented OCD loop. The interesting idea here is this activity can have a brain hemisphere dominance.

When we are anxious, it is well known or suggested that doing some, any, menial distraction activity ( I define menial as a left brained, attention consuming ) such as adding columns of numbers, organising books or doing meditation. These could be called displacement activities. They provide a temporary relief from worrying thoughts that create undesirable feelings that accompany anxiety.

A more permanent solution is to learn how to change the thought patterns that create anxiety in the first place. Anxiety and stress go hand in hand when people have the following kinds of experience.

  • Lack of certainty about the future
  • Lack of control in situations
  • Poor social support
  • Lack of outlets for stress

What Can You Do To Help Yourself?

How is it that people in a comparable situation to you can feel OK and calm what you would have been anxious? Well in a nut shell they think differently. Understanding how you think is a very positive first step in changing how you feel. They don’t have quite so much amygdala arousal.

A significant proportion of people I work with create their own anxiety by talking to themselves. Not necessarily out loud but by the silent thoughts that are generally ruminated as ‘what if …’, ‘this is going to be bad …’ BUT it is the same kind of thoughts, that with practice, can generate a much more positive outlook on life.

  • Feel more in-control of your life
  • Be more comfortable with insecurity
  • Engage your friends and peers
  • Discover outlets for stress
